§ 6-93. Portion of proceeds for promotion.

(a)

Purpose. The city commission shall each fiscal year budget a portion of the proceeds from the collection of the tax imposed by this article which shall be expended for the purpose of promoting tourism, conventions, and trade shows, in the manner set forth in this section. In no event shall such annual portion of the proceeds be less than the amount required by O.C.G.A. § 48-13-51(a)(3). Further, the proceeds collected from the within increase of one (1) percent in the hotel/motel tax shall be specifically used for the payment of the costs and expenses of the quiet community project as recommended by the Cordele-Crisp Tourism Committee.

(b)

Contract promotion. The city commission shall contract with the Cordele-Crisp Chamber of Commerce for the promotion required by this article. Such promotion shall be directed by the Cordele-Crisp Tourism Committee with actions governed and expenditures approved by the Cordele-Crisp Chamber of Commerce.

(c)

Composition. The Cordele City Commission shall appoint three (3) members to the Cordele-Crisp Tourism Committee. The Cordele Hotel/Motel Association shall appoint three (3) members to the Cordele-Crisp Tourism Committee. The balance of the committee shall be appointed by the Cordele-Crisp Chamber of Commerce following the committee guidelines as established by the by-laws of that organization.

(d)

Qualifications of members. The qualifications of each of the members of the committee shall be determined by the authority appointing each such member.

(e)

Chairman. The chairman shall be chosen by a majority of the duly qualified members of the committee.

(f)

Meetings, by-laws. The committee shall be governed under the by-laws of the Cordele-Crisp Chamber of Commerce, shall schedule regular meetings, and shall provide a procedure to call special meetings.

(g)

Payment of proceeds. The proceeds budgeted by the city commission to fund the requirements of this section shall be transmitted to the Cordele-Crisp Chamber of Commerce and at such intervals and in such amounts as the city commission may from time to time determine.
